Amber’s Tips for Amazing Fries Every Time
If your fries always seem to turn out soggy or unevenly cooked, you’re not alone — I’ve been there, too. The trick to amazing loaded fries is starting with crispy, golden fries that can hold up under all that topping. Here’s how I get them perfect every time.Use a large baking sheet. Fries need room to breathe. When they’re crowded together, they steam instead of crisping. Spread them out in a single layer so the hot air can circulate evenly.Crank the heat. Most frozen fries recommend around 425°F (220°C). Stick to that or even a bit higher if your oven runs cool — the extra heat makes the edges perfectly crunchy.Flip halfway through. It’s worth the minute it takes to turn them with a spatula. This keeps both sides evenly browned and crisp.Don’t skip the preheat. I know, it’s tempting to slide the pan in while the oven warms up, but a hot oven from the start gives fries that restaurant-style crunch.Serve them right away. Fries don’t like waiting. Once they’re crisp and golden, get your toppings ready and assemble while they’re still piping hot.If you want to go the extra mile, sprinkle a little salt or seasoning on the fries as soon as they come out of the oven — the heat helps it stick, and every bite tastes better.
