  • Tablespoon

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Ketchup
  • 1 Cup Brown Sugar
  • ¼ Cup Tomato Paste
  • 3 Tbsp Liquid Hickory Smoke
  • 1 Tbsp Garlic Powder

Instructions

  • Heat saucepan on medium-high heat.
  • Add all the ingredients.
1 Cup Ketchup, 1 Cup Brown Sugar, ¼ Cup Tomato Paste, 3 Tbsp Liquid Hickory Smoke, 1 Tbsp Garlic Powder
  • Lower to simmer.
  • Cook stirring continuously to prevent burning until brown sugar dissolves.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Store unused sauce in mason jar with lid in fridge.
  • Be sure to let fully cool before adding the lid to prevent condensation forming in jar.

Notes

Notes:
  • Simmer the sauce over medium to medium-low heat and stir consistently to prevent the brown sugar from scorching on the bottom of the saucepan.
  • Once the sugar has fully dissolved, the sauce will smooth out and thicken slightly as it cooks.
  • If the sauce becomes too thick, you can thin it with a small amount of water to reach your preferred consistency, especially if using it as a dipping sauce.
  • This sauce can be made ahead and stored in a mason jar or airtight container in the fridge. Let it cool completely before sealing to avoid condensation.
  • For best flavor, let the sauce sit for a few hours before using so the smoky and sweet elements can settle together.
